With the aftermath of this disaster going on in Haiti, there are alot of “donation” gimmicks going around trying to collect money out of greed. Here are some official ways that you can donate and/or help those effected in Haiti.
FYI: On Twitter, some have mistakenly shared a rumor that UPS will ship (for free) any package under 50lbs. to Haiti. This Is Not True. Rather than offer free shipping to individual donors, UPS directs its aid through relief agencies. They have also donated $1 million in cash and in-kind aid.
Fo my fellow New Yorkers you can bring food and clothing donations to “Words” this Saturday at Nuyorican Poets Cafe. 10pm 236 East 3rd Street.Â
Donate to the International Relief Fund of the American Red Cross, which you can do online here. You can also call 1-800-REDCROSS to donate.
The Red Cross is also allowing mobile donations towards Haiti relief–text “HAITI” to 90999 to donate $10, and the charge will simply show up on your next phone bill.
Also use your cell phone to text “Yele†to 501501, which will automatically donate $5 to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund (it will be charged to your cell phone bill), or you can visit Yele.org and click on DONATE.â€

Follow On Twitter:
888-407-4747 is the State Department telephone number for Americans seeking information about family members in Haiti.

Thanks for correcting the rumor about UPS shipping to Haiti. We’re helping in lots of ways, including financial aid. You can find a list of places to donate at our blog http://blog.ups.com/
