This weeks Throwback Thursday we will celebrate and remember 90′s Hip Hop & R&B group Jodeci. The group consists of two pairs of brothers from Hampton,Virginia and Charlotte, North Carolina: Cedric & Joel Hailey and Donald & Dalvin DeGrate, all respectively known by their stage names: K-Ci & Jojo, DeVante Swing and Mr. Dalvin. The group’s name is a combination of the names from all four members: Jo-Jo, DeGrate, and K-Ci.
Jodeci was one of the most popular R&B groups in the early-to-late ’90s, with sultry tracks like,“Freakin You,” “Forever My Lady” and “Feenin.” In 1991, they recorded Forever My Lady, which featured the gold single “Come and Talk to Me” and went on to sell over three million copies. Jodeci went on to release two more albums, Diary of a Mad Band(1993) and The Show, the After Party, the Hotel(1995).
Their attitudes and the way they dressed made them stand out more than the other R&B male groups out there. Jodeci was very relate-able they reminded you of the guys that were from around the way. They were a great representation of what was out there on the street. R&B is missing these days with a lot of people confirming to what is hot right now. Let’s celebrate and commend Jodeci for staying true to themselves as a R&B group.
